Thursday 26 January was the second day of a two-day capacity building seminar organised by the African Legal Support Facility (ALSF) and the Pan-African Lawyers Union (PALU) in Tunis. Its aim was to familiarise North African lawyers with the African Development Bank’s different organs and activities and offer them a better understanding of the institution’s legal requirements in financing infrastructure projects.

The African Legal Support Facility (ALSF), on Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 June 2011, in Lisbon, held two major meetings: the Management Board meeting and the Governing Council meeting. The ALSF meetings were part of the activities taking place during the AfDB’s 2011 Annual Meetings in Lisbon, and were an opportunity to discuss issues related to the ALSF’s activities missions and membership.

One of the primary areas of need identified during the creation of the Facility was the recognition that there is a shortage of qualified African lawyers to advise on complex commercial transactions and vulture fund litigation. The Facility is attempting to address that need by focusing on developing legal capacity across the continent.
